Integrating Technology

This spring semester I am in a class called Intro to Computers in Education. Here we had to think of some things that we wanted to learn and how we would integrate them into the classroom we wish to teach. One of the things that I have only heard a little about and wanted to know more was Movie Maker. How do you go about making a movie, or letting your students make a movie that can still relate to the material you are covering. I found an article on the FGCU database that touched a little on this subject.
In this article Lauren Richards talks about how students get excited about video games, television, and movies, and shows a way that the students can create their own short film. She talks about integrating science and social studies which is what I would like to teach at The elementary level. This article discusses how the student could just do some simple interviews and you can automatically see how they light up when you are taking learning outside of the book. I think that this article definitly shows how we can integrate movie making into the classroom without it being too complex for young children to understand.

I have never used Movie Maker until Dr. Baylen mentioned it in class, then i too got interested in it and tried it out on my own...I made a video for my girlfriend who just moved to ny with her family, i wanted to show her some of the things she missed so she can feel like she was apart of it...it took me three or four days to finish it and it was only like 5 min long...but i learned so much by just playing around with the program and learning all the gadgets it has...it is a wonderful program and will be very useful in the classroom if used correctly...I know you said you wanted to be a elementary teacher, but i want to be a highschool history and i got this idea from this program, that my students can create a movie that deals with a portion of history that we are discussing...maybe recreate a event or talk out a story...there are tons of ideas that can be used just from on program...it is great...
